GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Heidi von der Lage won the deciding point at No. 6 singles as the Tusculum College Women's tennis team edged Lees-McRae College 5-4 Friday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
Tusculum (11-2) won two of the three doubles matches, while splitting at singles, including von der Lage's 6-3, 6-3 win over Katie Hawkins to break a 4-4 tie.
Tusculum opened with an 8-2 doubles win at the top flight as Caroline Crowe and Katelyn Doss defeated Andrea Balaszova and Amanda Nacimento. TC also got a No. 3 doubles win by Bronwyn Hartley and Blake Thompson.
Hartley accounted for another point in her No. 2 singles victory over Balaszova (6-3, 6-4), while Doss also won her No. 4 flight battle with Nacimento, 6-3, 6-3.
Cameron Joyce and Ashley Mayers won their respective singles matches for Lees-McRae (5-7) tie the contest at 4-4, setting up von der Lage's (pronounced von der lay) heroics.
Tusculum travels to Carson-Newman on Wednesday for an important South Atlantic Conference in Jefferson City, Tenn.
