GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Kendal Coreil scored three goals in a span of 10 1/2 minutes in the first half to help Columbus State University to a 5-0 win over Tusculum University in non-conference women's soccer Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Field.

Sarah Hungerford and Abigail Akerson also scored for the Cougars (4-3-1), who outshot the Pioneers 24-3 and did not allow a shot on goal in the match. Columbus State led 4-0 at halftime but were turned away in the second half by Tusculum keeper Emma Harriman, who made nine saves on 15 shot attempts after intermission. Her nine saves were one shy of her career high of 10 set against Georgia College on Oct. 6, 2021.

Coreil's goals came in the 24th, 27th and 34th minutes for the Cougars, who had a 9-0 edge in corner kicks over the Pioneers (1-6-1) in the match. Lizzie Hedrick and Heidi Harris split time in goal to earn the shutout for Columbus State.

Tusculum would have the first shot opportunity of the match in the second minute, but Lakin Pennington sent a shot just over the crossbar. Columbus State's first chance came in the sixth minute, when an attempt from Faith Knoedler was cleared off the line by Tusculum's Tanna Bookhamer, followed by a shot from Hungerford that was stopped by Pioneer starting keeper Grayson Patterson.

The Cougars went up 1-0 at 16:10 as a shot from a sharp angle by Hungerford tipped off the hands of a leaping Patterson and went over the line just before being cleared by Pioneer defender Marja Enste.

Columbus State went up 2-0 at 23:25 as Lizz Forshaw collected a loose ball and fed Coreil, who fired home her second goal of the season. Three minutes later, a corner kick was played in the box by Sage Smith to Coreil, who knocked in her second of the day at 26:37 for a 3-0 Cougars lead.

Coreil would complete the natural hat truck at 33:41 as she tracked down a loose ball down the left side and fired a shot from 20 yards that beat Harriman to the far post, extending Columbus State's lead to 4-0.

Harriman would excel in goal in the second half for the Pioneers, making a pair of saves on Emma Beddow in the 60th and 62nd minutes. Harriman added a lunging save on Coreil in the 63rd minute followed by a diving stop on Hungerford in the 65th minute.

Columbus State nearly added to its lead in the 66th minute, but a free kick from Brooke Ouimette rang off the crossbar. Harriman made another save on a shot from Beddow in the 67th minute.

The Cougars would go up 5-0 at 67:08 as a give-and-go from Brooke Yount went to Akerson, who scored short side for her first of the season.

Harriman tacked on four more saves in the final 18 minutes, including a fantastic punch away of a shot from 10 yards by Coreil in the 78th minute and a one-on-one stop on Anna Grady in the 84th minute.

Tusculum will be on the road to face Anderson in a South Atlantic Conference matchup on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Trojans defeated Emory & Henry 2-0 on Saturday to move into a tie for third place in the SAC at 3-0-1 (4-3-1 overall).
