Pioneers gain two spots in United Soccer Coaches region rankings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- The Tusculum women's soccer team gained two spots in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, through matches of Oct. 15.

The Pioneers (9-3-0) moved from ninth to seventh in the rankings after a 3-0 victory at Mars Hill Friday in their only match of the week. Tusculum was one of three schools to climb two spots in the rankings, following losses by Wingate and Young Harris which dropped them to eighth and ninth, respectively.

Carson-Newman (11-0-1) jumped into the top spot in the Southeast Region rankings following a 1-0 win over Wingate on Saturday. Flagler (11-0-2), which had a win and a tie in its two matches last week, fell from first to second in the survey, while Columbus State (10-1-0) remained third after two wins.

Queens (9-2-1) and North Georgia (8-3-2) round out the top five, followed by Limestone (11-2-0), Tusculum, Wingate (7-2-0), Young Harris (7-3-1) and UNC Pembroke (8-3-1).

The United Soccer Coaches College Rankings are an indicator of week-to-week status of qualified programs and in no way should be used as a guide or indicator of eligibility for selection to the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship.

Tusculum (6-1-0 South Atlantic Conference) hosts Carson-Newman (7-0-1 SAC) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Pioneer Field in a match with conference and regional implications. The Eagles lead the Pioneers by four points in the SAC standings with three matches left.
