ANDERSON, S.C. --- Katja Andersson scored early in the second half to give Tusculum College a 1-0 victory at Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.

Andersson's goal in the 49th minute lifted the Pioneers (5-2-2, 3-0-1 SAC) to the win over the Trojans (6-2-0, 3-1-0 SAC) on a sunny and hot afternoon. Tusculum outshot Anderson by a 15-13 margin and had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks, one of which set up the decisive goal in the match.

The Trojans had the first three shot attempts in the opening seven minutes before the Pioneers had their first crack at the Anderson goal in the 9th minute. Carly Mill had three opportunities for the Pioneers in a span of five minutes, but had a header blocked and two other shots saved by Trojan keeper Bianca Porras.

Porras made five saves in the opening half as Tusculum put a total of seven shots at the Anderson net. The Trojans attempted six shots in the first half, with Pioneer keeper Miriah Martin making two saves in the opening 45 minutes.

A save by Porras off a shot by the Pioneers' Carlie Thornber in the 48th minute set up a corner kick for the Pioneers, and Olivia Kilgore put the ball on the foot of Andersson, who scored from 12 yards away to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. The assist was Kilgore's team-high fifth of the season, all coming in the last four games.

Martin stood tall in goal for the Pioneers after the goal by Andersson, making saves in the 50th, 76th and 81st minutes to preserve the lead. Anderson had just one shot attempt in the final nine minutes, but the shot went wide of the goal with 46 seconds to play.

For Martin, the shutout was her second in a row, third of the season and the 11th of her career. The Tusculum defense has allowed a total of three goals in four conference matches, and none in the last 218 minutes, 44 seconds of play.  Porras had a total of six saves in goal for the Trojans.

Tusculum is off until hosting Newberry on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
