Women's soccer earns No. 6 seed in SAC Tournament, open Tuesday at Queens

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum College women's soccer team will be the No. 6 seed and open South Atlantic Conference Tournament play on Tuesday when they travel to Queens University of Charlotte to take on the third-seeded Royals. The SAC Tournament quarterfinal match-up will kick off at 5 p.m. at the Queens Sports Complex.

The two teams met in the SAC opener on Sep. 16 in Charlotte as the Royals got a penalty kick goal in the 60th minute to edge the Pioneers 1-0.

Tusculum (9-7-2) finished the SAC regular-season with a 5-4-2 league record for its 17 points. Queens earned the tournament's No. 3 seed with its 8-2-1 conference record for 25 points.

Tusculum is vying for its fifth SAC Tournament championship having won the league postseason title in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005.

Tuesday's match-up will mark the second time the Pioneers and Royals have squared off in the SAC Tournament quarterfinal round. Tusculum won the 2013 tournament meeting as Nikki Arthur converted a first half penalty kick goal into a 1-0 Pioneer victory.

In their 16 previous SAC Tournament appearances, the Pioneers have advanced past the quarterfinal round in all but four occasions (2006, 2008, 2011 and 2014). Tusculum owns an impressive 18-8-6 record in the SAC Tournament.

The winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal will advance to Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, South Carolina for Friday's semifinal against either No. 2 Wingate University or No. 7 Newberry College. That semifinal match will kick off at 6:30 p.m.

The 2015 SAC Tournament championship match is slated for 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Manchester Meadows. The SAC Tournament champion will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
