Lewis? goal propels Women's soccer to 1-0 win over Georgia College

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Taylor Lewis scored 58 seconds into the second half which proved to be the only goal of the match as Tusculum blanked visiting Georgia College 1-0 Wednesday afternoon at Pioneer Field.

With the victory the Pioneers (7-5-1) extend their winning streak to four in a row, while the Bobcats fall to 6-5-2 on the season.

Following a scoreless opening half, the Pioneers went on the attack and Lewis broke free in the box on a through-ball pass from Carly Mill. Lewis than beat the goalkeeper one-on-one sending a shot just inside the far post for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Tusculum keeper Miriah Martin posted her sixth win in goal, including her third shutout, as she accounted for five saves in the contest. GC net-minder Ashlee Graham finished the match with four saves in the loss.

Tusculum out-shot Georgia College by a 14-10 margin and owned a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Lewis' match-winner was her third of the season and 12th of her career, the fourth-most by a Pioneer. The also scored her 28th career goal (T6th in TC history) and moved into eighth place in the TC record book with her 69 career points.

During Tusculum's current four-match winning streak, three of those victories have been one-goal wins, including shutouts in their last two outings.

The Pioneers return to South Atlantic Conference play this Saturday as they travel to cross-mountain rival Mars Hill for a 1 p.m. match at Meares Stadium.
