NEWBERRY, S.C. --- Newberry College's Alexis Carrillo made a pair of saves in a penalty kick shootout as the third-seeded Wolves outlasted No. 6 seed Tusculum College to advance to the semifinal round of the 2014 South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament. Newberry won the shootout 4-3 to advance as Tusculum ends its year with a 10-7-2 record.

The Wolves (10-3-4) and Pioneers played to a scoreless draw through regulation and the two overtime periods in Tuesday's SAC Tournament quarterfinal match at the Smith Road Complex.

Tusculum jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the shootout as Newberry was blanked in its opening shot, while TC's Lindsey Kelly scored for the visitors. The Wolves tied the score at 1-1 in the second round, making their second shot and Tusculum coming up empty on their chance.

Neither team would miss a shot in the next two rounds and headed into the fifth frame tied, 3-3.

Sabrina Serafin gave the Wolves a 4-3 lead with her shootout goal, while Tusculum missed its final penalty kick effort to send Newberry to Friday's semifinal match in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

In the 11th minute, Tusculum's Rachel Roberts sent in a shot from 35 yards out that was heading to the top shelf of the goal, but Carrillo caught the ball above her head to keep the match scoreless.

Tusculum got another chance in the 55th minute when Taylor Lewis' scoring effort hit the crossbar.

Newberry out-shot the Pioneers by an 18-10 margin, including 7-1 in overtime. Tusculum owned a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Tusculum senior keeper Marissa Williams accounted for six saves, while recording her program and SAC record 31st career save in her TC finale. Williams leaves Tusculum as the program's all-time leader in saves (323) and minutes played (6534), while her 38-23-10 career record in goal is second in the TC record book. Her 1.02 career goals against average is tied for the fifth lowest in Pioneer history.

Tuesday was also the final collegiate matches for seniors Nikki Arthur, Jenique Thombs, Katie Chadwick and Alisha Pugh.
