Tusculum Women's soccer edged 1-0 to SAC-leading Bears

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Emily Atkinson accounted for the only scoring of match in Lenoir-Rhyne University's 1-0 South Atlantic Conference women's soccer win over Tusculum College Sunday afternoon at the TC Upper Field.

The Bears (10-3, 7-1 SAC) record their sixth consecutive victory while taking over sole possession of first place in the league.

Atkinson scored the match-winner in the 32nd minute when she gathered in a free kick from Brianna Belsky from the left side of the penalty box and blasted a shot to the far post for her second goal of 2014.

Lenoir-Rhyne out-shot the Pioneers (8-5-1, 4-3 SAC) by a 19-6 margin, while Tusculum owned a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

L-R keeper Alayna Morris accounted for three saves and posted her four shutout of the season. Tusculum net-minder Marissa Williams finished with seven saves in going the distance.

TC's Taylor Lewis and Nikki Arthur finished with two shots apiece for the Pioneers.

Tusculum returns to action on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. SAC match against in-state foe Lincoln Memorial University. It will be the first of three straight road matches for the Pioneers.
