Williams, Perez named third-team NSCAA All-Region
KANSAS CITY, Kan. ---

Tusculum College senior midfielder Monica Perez and junior goalkeeper Marissa Williams have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire Division II All-Southeast Region Women's soccer team.

Both players earned third-team All-Region honors, with Williams claiming a spot on the team for the second time in her career and Perez becoming the Pioneers' 34th All-Region honoree since Tusculum joined Division II for the 1999 season. They helped Tusculum finish 10-7-3 this season and third place in the South Atlantic Conference with a 7-2-2 league record.

Williams, an NSCAA third-team All-Region selection in 2011, was named honorable mention All-SAC after starting all 20 matches and compiling a stellar 0.89 goals against average and a league-best 11 shutouts. The Canton, Mich. product posted an .825 save percentage and had two streaks of five consecutive matches with a shutout. In 11 SAC matches, Williams led the conference in goals against average (0.52), save percentage (.878) and shutouts (eight) while playing all 1,030 minutes in net.

Williams, who had separate streaks of 523 and 499 minutes without allowing a goal, finished one shy of the school single-season record of 12 shutouts set by Whitney Wardrop in 2006. Her 25 career shutouts are a program record, and she also ranks among the school's career leaders in saves and goals against average.

Perez was a first-team All-SAC honoree after she recorded a goal and four assists for six points in 20 matches. The Austin, Texas native shared the team lead in assists and was one of three players to start all 20 contests for the Pioneers. A four-year starter, Perez finished her career with one goal and eight assists for 10 points in 76 matches while seeing time at forward, midfield and defense.

Tusculum's 10 wins in 2013 mark the 16th time in the 17-year tenure of head coach Mike Joy that the Pioneers have reached double figures in victories. The Pioneers have had 19 different players earn NSCAA All-Region honorees in that time span, including at least one first-team selection in 10 different seasons.
