Lenoir-Rhyne University remained unbeaten in the South Atlantic
Conference with a 3-0 victory over Tusculum College in Women's
soccer action Saturday afternoon.
The Bears (10-2-1, 6-0-1 SAC) took the lead in the ninth minute and
added goals in the 40th and 60th minutes to send the Pioneers
(5-6-3, 3-2-2 SAC) to their third consecutive loss.
Kayla Stamey, Garcelle Alequine and Lauren Donovan scored goals for
the Bears, who finished the match with a 20-6 advantage in shots
over the Pioneers.
Stamey gave Lenoir-Rhyne a 1-0 lead at 8:39 as she knocked home a
corner kick from Kendall Smith for her second goal of the season.
At 39:54, Alequine netted her seventh of the year off a feed from
Smith to give the Bears a 2-0 advantage.
In the second half, Donovan closed out the scoring at 59:01 as she
fired a cross from Hallie Hilliard to the far post for her first
goal of the season. The Lenoir-Rhyne defense held firm the rest of
the way as Tusculum managed just one shot on frame in the final 30
minutes.
Marissa Williams made six saves in goal for the Pioneers, while
Genny Little came up with a pair of stops to earn the shutout for
the Bears.
Tusculum will be back home for three consecutive matches, starting
Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Lincoln Memorial at Pioneer Field.
