Tusculum College placed two players on the Food Lion South
Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer All-Tournament team, which was
announced following Lenoir-Rhyne's 2-0 win over Wingate in the
championship match on Sunday.
Junior defender Amy Morford and freshman midfielder Alisha Pugh
were honored for their performance in the tournament, which saw the
Pioneers advance to the semifinals before being eliminated in
penalty kicks by Wingate.
Morford anchored a Tusculum defense that did not allow a goal
during the course of play in 200 minutes during the tournament. The
Pioneers yielded just 14 shots on goal in two matches in the
tournament, a 2-0 win over Lincoln Memorial in the quarterfinals
and a 1-1 tie with Wingate in the semifinals.
Pugh, a second-team All-SAC honoree, scored the first goal in the
quarterfinal win over Lincoln Memorial in the 14th minute and
assisted on a goal by Tramicka James in the 53rd minute against
Wingate in the semifinals that gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
Tusculum concluded its 2012 season with a 12-3-3 overall record,
the program's 15th season of 10 or more wins in the last 16 years
and the Pioneers' best finish since going 14-3-3 in 2006.
