A three-goal second half gave Tusculum College a 3-0 victory
over Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference Women's
soccer action Saturday afternoon.
Jana Linke, Gabrielle Whitt and Taylor Lewis scored in a 25-minute
span for the Pioneers (6-1-1, 2-0-0 SAC), who extended their
unbeaten streak to six matches (five wins, one tie).
Marissa Williams made five saves to record the shutout against the
Trojans (4-3-1, 2-1-0 SAC), who attempted seven shots on the
Pioneer goal.
After a scoreless first half, the Pioneers struck for the first
goal of the day at 55:17 as Linke tallied her second goal of the
season off an assist by Alisha Pugh.
Tusculum was able to protect its one-goal lead until Whitt struck
for her first career goal at 77:07, assisted by Tramicka James.
Lewis added an insurance goal at 79:42 as she was able to get
control behind the Anderson keeper and scored into an open net.
It was the third goal of the season for Lewis and her second in as
many games, following her overtime winner in Thursday's 3-2 victory
over Mars Hill. Kim Brown had the assist on the goal by Lewis.
Anderson keeper Kaitlyn Neipp finished with four saves against
Tusculum, which attempted 10 shots toward the Trojan net. The
Pioneers also held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
Tusculum will return to action Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against
Brevard in a SAC match from Pioneer Field.
