INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College Women's soccer team is eighth in the first NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, released Wednesday.
The Pioneers have a 7-5-0 record against regional opponents and
an 8-5-0 mark against NCAA foes this season. Tusculum is 8-5-1
overall, with a tie against non-NCAA member Young Harris not
factoring into the NCAA rankings.
Armstrong Atlantic State (10-2-1), which defeated Tusculum 5-1 on
Sept. 18, holds the top spot in the rankings, followed by North
Georgia (11-1-0), Lenoir-Rhyne (12-1-0), Columbus State (10-3-1)
and Lander (11-2-1). South Atlantic Conference foe Wingate (10-2-0)
is sixth, trailed by UNC Pembroke (7-4-2), Tusculum, Lees-McRae
(10-2-1) and Mount Olive (8-3-1) to round out the top 10.
A total of six teams from the Southeast Region will be selected to the 2011 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament -- conference champions from the Peach Belt Conference, Conference Carolinas and the SAC, along with three at-large berths. The field will be announced on Monday, Nov. 7.
The Pioneers host SAC rival Lincoln Memorial University Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
