Tusculum College and Young Harris College played to a 2-2 tie in
a non-conference Women's soccer match Thursday afternoon.
Michelle Meade scored the tying goal with exactly 10 minutes
remaining in the second half as the Pioneers (8-4-1) fought back
from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to earn the draw with the Mountain Lions
(8-3-1).
Tramicka James also scored for Tusculum, which outshot Young Harris
by a 20-17 margin including 11-10 during a second half delayed 43
minutes by lightning with 24 minutes to play.
The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead just 3:56 into the first half as
Mika Lopes scored her fifth goal of the season. Young Harris
carried the one-goal edge into the second half, but James tallied
her team-high 11th goal of the year just 2:18 into the half,
assisted by Claire Duncan.
Young Harris regained the lead at 2-1 at 62:41 as Rachel Wilkes
fired home the rebound of a shot off the post by Haley Holderfield,
but Meade's fourth goal of the year was the equalizer at 80:00.
James had the lone shot for the Pioneers in the first overtime
period, while Holderfield put a shot on net midway through the
10-minute frame. Lopes and Holderfield had shots in the second
extra stanza for the Mountain Lions, while Colleen Moloney
accounted for the Pioneers' only attempt at goal over the final 10
minutes.
Marissa Williams accumulated six saves over 110 minutes for the
Pioneers, while former Tusculum goalkeeper Kelsey Cunningham
registered nine stops for the Mountain Lions.
Tusculum will play its third straight road contest on Saturday with
a South Atlantic Conference match at Anderson beginning at 1
p.m.
