NEWBERRY, S.C. --- Tramicka James scored with 10:57 remaining in the second half to give Tusculum College a 1-0 win at Newberry College in a South Atlantic Conference Women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at the Newberry Soccer Field.

James' fourth goal of the season allowed the Pioneers to improve to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the SAC with their first shutout of the season, while the Wolves dropped to 2-7 overall and 2-2 in SAC play with the setback.

The Wolves took the game's first four shots over a 12-minute span, but the Pioneers came back with five of the next six shots. The teams finished the first half scoreless, with Newberry holding a 9-6 advantage in shots.

In the second half, the teams had few scoring opportunities until James corralled a throw-in by Claire Duncan and fired the ball home at 79:03 to break the 0-0 tie.

Newberry fought back in the final 10 minutes in search of the equalizer, but Tusculum keeper Rachael Jennings came up with a save on a header by the Wolves' Jesse Langdon with 1:31 left to preserve the shutout.

Overall, Newberry finished with a 15-11 margin in shots over Tusculum, while the Pioneers held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Newberry also held a slight 11-10 advantage in fouls and was booked for a pair of yellow cards in the match.

Jennings made four saves for her first shutout of the season and the fourth of her career. Emily Rhoades made two saves for Newberry over the game's first 83 minutes before giving way to Megan Hrenchir for the final seven minutes.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday evening with a non-conference home match against King College beginning at 7:00 p.m.
