Box score

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Wingate's Chelsey Horan scored with winning goal with 57 seconds remaining in the second overtime period to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 South Atlantic Conference women's soccer victory over Tusculum College Saturday afternoon at the Niswonger Sports Complex/Pioneer Field.

Wingate improves 3-1-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the SAC, while the Pioneers fall to 3-5, 0-2 SAC. The Bulldogs capture their first-ever win over Tusculum in their eight trips to Greeneville.

Tusculum's Courtney Turner recorded her fourth goal of the season when she scored on a free kick from 40 yards away. Turner's shot went to the top shelf of the goal, just past the outstretched hands of Wingate keeper Miriam Boucher.

Tusculum led 1-0 at the intermission, but the Bulldogs applied the pressure out of the locker room and at the 47:13 mark, Kerstin Williams headed in her fourth tally of the year, from eight yards out to the near post on crossing pass by Holly Holsclaw.

Both teams had chances in the second half, but neither squad could capitalize sending the match into extra time. Overtime matches have been familiar to both Tusculum and Wingate of late. The Pioneers were playing in its second extra time match of the week, while the Bulldogs were playing in their fourth consecutive overtime.

It looked as if the match would end in a draw heading into the final minute of the match, but Wingate served the ball into the box. The ball was kicked around by several players until it came to the foot of Horan as she kicked in the loose ball from six yards out for her first collegiate goal and the match-winner at the 109:03 mark.

The shot differential was close throughout as Wingate edged the Pioneers by a 19-16 margin, including 9-5 on corner kicks.

Tusculum keeper Kelsey Cunningham posted four saves for the Pioneers, while Boucher finished with six saves in the Wingate victory.

Tusculum is back in action this Tuesday as the Pioneers travel to Brevard College for a 3 p.m. league match.
