Pioneers receiving votes in NSCAA/adidas postseason poll

KANSAS CITY, Kan. --- The Tusculum College women's soccer team is receiving votes in the postseason addition of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament this season.

Tusculum posted a 15-5-3 overall record and finished second in the South Atlantic Conference standings with a 6-2 mark against league opponents. The Pioneers punched their first ticket to the NCAA Tournament since 2007, earning the fifth seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional and drawing SAC foe Newberry College in the first round, whom the Pioneers defeated by a 2-1 score in Jefferson City, Tenn. Tusculum then fell to SAC regular season and tournament champion Carson-Newman by a 1-0 score in the second round.

Grand Valley State University is ranked first in the final poll of the season after capturing the program's first-ever national championship. National runner-up West Florida is ranked second in the postseason poll for the second straight year, as the Argos fell to national champion Seattle Pacific in 2008. Semifinalists Cal State Dominguez Hills and Saint Rose are ranked third and fourth, respectively, while Carson-Newman ends the year as the No. 5 team in the nation.

Tusculum is expected to return 10 starters and 21 letter-winners from this year's squad, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer National Tournament. The Pioneers are also expected to return eight of their top 10 scorers from this season.
