Trio of Pioneers garner All-SAC honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum College women's soccer team placed three players on the 2009 All-South Atlantic Conference Team, including 2007 All-American and first team selection Courtney Turner, while freshman forward Tramicka James and senior defender Ashley Bradford were named to the second team.

Turner, a junior from Cocoa Beach, Fla., has scored two goals and tallied eight assists this season, earning her third straight all-conference selection. The 5-3 midfielder notched her third consecutive season with five or more assists, dishing out a career-high eight helpers this year to move into sixth on TC's all-time list with 18 career assists. Turner tallied four two-assist matches this season, including a pair of helpers in a pivotal 5-4 victory over Lynn University on Sep. 13. The three-time All-SAC selection also scored one of the biggest goals of her career against Newberry on Oct. 3, netting the match-winner late in the second half to give TC a 1-0 victory.

James has posted one of the most impressive rookie seasons in recent history for the Pioneers, scoring a team-high 11 goals and dishing out eight assists to rank second on the team. A native of Wilson, N.C., James tallied nine multi-point matches this season, including a one-goal, three-assist effort against Pfeiffer on Sep. 16. The 5-3 attacker scored three match-winners this season, including a pair of deciding goals in SAC play against Mars Hill (Oct. 7) and Wingate (Oct. 24). James is currently tied for second in the conference with 30 points through 21 matches.

Bradford, a senior from London, Ky., has been a critical component of the Pioneers' remarkable turnaround this season, answering the call countless times this fall to mark and shut down opposing teams' top players. The 5-7 defender has come through in the clutch several times this season, scoring three match-winners this fall to tie James for the team lead. Bradford's three deciding goals came in three consecutive matches early this season, as the senior defender netted the match-winners against Southern Virginia (Sep. 11), Lynn (Sep. 13), and Pfeiffer (Sep. 16).

The Pioneers were knocked out of the Food Lion SAC Tournament in the semifinal round on Friday, as Lenoir-Rhyne edged Tusculum 4-3 in a penalty kick shootout to advance to Sunday's championship match. Tusculum now awaits word on a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Division II national tournament; the field will be announced later this weekend.
