SALISBURY, N.C. --- Freshman Kourtney Kavic notched the first match-winner of her collegiate career and Marjaana Kaaresvirta made nine saves to lead the No. 21 Tusculum College women's soccer team to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday.

Tusculum (12-3, 5-1 SAC) notched its 10th win in its last 11 matches, including five wins in conference play to hold on to second place in the SAC standings. Catawba outshot the Pioneers 22-12 in the match, including a 12-5 margin in the first half.

Sophomore Claire Duncan converted her third penalty kick of the season and Kavic notched her fifth goal of the campaign to pace the Pioneer attack, while Tramicka James and Kayla Durden each recorded an assist on the afternoon.

Catawba opened the scoring in the closing moments of the 32nd minute, when Tasha Wilhelm made a run into space along the far wing and delivered a well-placed chip shot over the TC keeper for her second goal of the season to put Catawba up 1-0.

Tusculum then took advantage of a foul in the Catawba area midway through the 41st minute, as Duncan buried the penalty kick in the left corner of the goal for her fifth goal of the season to pull the Pioneers back on terms at 1-1 heading into the interval.

The Pioneers battled back in the second half, scoring the eventual match-winner midway through the 59th minute after a brilliant display of passing by James and Durden left Kavic in perfect position for the finish to give TC the decisive 2-1 advantage.

Tusculum returns to the pitch on Monday when the Pioneers travel to Savannah, Ga. for a 3:30 p.m. match-up with Armstrong Atlantic State University.
