Women's SOCCER ENDS SEASON WITH 2-1 SAC TOURNAMENT LOSS TO LENOIR-RHYNE

Danielle Tanner HICKORY, N.C. --- The fifth-seeded Tusculum College women's soccer team (10-9-1) fell to No. 4 seed Lenoir-Rhyne University (13-5-2) for the second time in four days on Tuesday night 2-1 in a quarterfinal match of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament, as the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears scored twice in the final 10 minutes to advance to the semifinal round on Friday in Rock Hill, S.C.

The match remained scoreless into the 63rd minute when Tusculum's Danielle Tanner found the back of the net to open the scoring in the match, making a run down the middle of the pitch and striking it past the keeper for her conference-leading 22nd goal of the season.

Tusculum held the 1-0 advantage until the 84th minute, when L-R's Catherine Hauck took a shot from 25 yards out on the right flank that beat the TC keeper to put the Bears back on terms. Hauck later notched her third goal of the season in the early moments of the 88th minute to push the Bears through to the semifinal round of the SAC Tournament.

The Pioneers edged the Bears in shots 15-13 in the match, as the two sides each made seven attempts on goal in the second half. Tanner led the black and orange with six shots, as Kaelia Frazier and Laura Linehan each took three shots for the Bears.

Tusculum concludes its season with a 10-9-1 record, but will potentially return seven of its starters next season as the Pioneers graduate five seniors from this year's squad. The Pioneers will return seven of its top 10 leading scorers, including freshman midfielder Michelle Meade who led the team with nine assists.

With the win, Lenoir-Rhyne advances to the semifinal round of the conference tournament and will face regular season champion Carson-Newman on Friday at 3 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C. Carson-Newman defeated Mars Hill 5-2 in another quarterfinal match earlier this evening to advance to the semifinal round.
