Women's SOCCER BLANKS QUEENS 4-0

Danielle Tanner CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Senior forward Danielle Tanner reached the 20-goal plateau for the second consecutive season, scoring two goals to lead the Tusculum College women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Queens University of Charlotte on Wednesday night. With the win, the Pioneers eclipsed the 10-win mark for the 12th straight year as they improve to 10-7-1 on the season, while Queens drops to 9-8-2.

Tanner opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the match with her 20th goal of the campaign, delivering a strike off the keeper to put the Pioneers up 1-0. The 5-7 forward later added to her stat line with her seventh assist of the season on Kelly Barron's 14th goal of the year in the 40th minute, which gave TC a 2-0 advantage heading into the half.

Tusculum extended the lead to 3-0 in the closing seconds of the 57th minute when Tanner found the back of the net for the 21st time this season, taking a throw in by Claire Duncan and slotting it past the Royals' keeper. Freshman Patience Leonard later notched her second goal of the campaign in the 81st minute off a corner kick to put TC up 4-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the match.

The Pioneers outshot the Royals 30-11 on the night as Barron tied a program record with 12 shots in the match. Tanner added five shots of her own, while Devan McIntyre tied a career-high with four attempts on goal off the bench.

With her five points in the match, Tanner moves into third on TC's all-time single-season points list with 49 markers this year. The native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada currently leads the South Atlantic Conference in goals (21) and points (49).

Megan Kurtz made her second start of the season in goal for the Pioneers, making a career-high five saves to notch her first career clean sheet. Kristen Kornacki made eight saves in net for the Royals.

Tusculum returns to the pitch on Saturday in the first match of a SAC doubleheader with the men's soccer team against Lenoir-Rhyne 2 p.m., as the Pioneers will celebrate senior day at Pioneer Field prior to the start of the contest.
