TUSCULUM Women's SOCCER SEEDED FIFTH FOR SAC TOURNAMENT,

PIONEERS AT CARSON-NEWMAN WEDNESDAY

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum College Women's soccer team will be the No. 5 seed in this week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament and will travel to fourth-seeded Carson-Newman College this Wednesday afternoon at McCown Field at 3 p.m.

Tusculum and Carson-Newman tied for fourth place in the final conference standings, but the Lady Eagles gain the No. 4 spot by virtue of its 1-0 win over TC during the regular season.

Amazingly, this quarterfinal round match-up will pit the top two ranked teams in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll. Carson-Newman is No. 1 and Tusculum was listed at No. 2. The last time these two teams met in Jefferson City was at last year's NCAA Southeast Region final, which Tusculum won 1-0 in double-overtime as the Pioneers advanced to the National Elite Eight.

Lincoln Memorial University is the top seed in this year's tournament as the Lady Railsplitters captured its first SAC Championship. LMU will host No. 8 Wingate University on Wednesday afternoon. Newberry College is the No. 2 seed and they will host seventh-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne College, while No. 3 Catawba College faces No. 6 Mars Hill College in a quarterfinal match.

The winner of the Tusculum/Carson-Newman match will face the winner of the LMU/Wingate contest on Friday in a SAC Tournament semifinal match at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C. beginning at 6 p.m. The tournament championship match will be held in Rock Hill on Sunday.

Tusculum will be in quest of its fifth SAC Tournament Championship (2000, 2001, 2003, 2005).
