MELBOURNE, Fla. --- The Tusculum College women's lacrosse team completed its three-game Spring Break road trip with a 22-4 loss to 17th-ranked Florida Tech Thursday night.

The Panthers (7-1) scored 17 unanswered goals over a span of 42 minutes and finished the match with a 43-7 edge in shots over the Pioneers (3-5). Allie Modica led Florida Tech with six goals and two assists and Sara Grenier had four goals and an assist for the Panthers in the win.

Rachel Holmes led the Pioneers with a goal and an assist, with Madison Malone, Hayley Bartlett and Shelby Gray each finishing with one goal apiece. Florida Tech had a 19-6 advantage in draw controls and forced the Pioneers into 17 turnovers in the contest.

The Panthers scored the opening goal of the match at 33 seconds off the stick of Sam Schiano, but Holmes responded on a free-position shot just over two minutes later to tie the score at 1-1. Caroline Dunleavy restored the lead for Florida Tech with 25:06 to play in the first half, but Bartlett answered 47 seconds later to tie the contest at 2-2.

From there, it was all Panthers as Grenier scored back-to-back goals in a 1:34 span and Modica scored four goals in just under seven minutes, the latter giving the Panthers a 9-2 lead with 8:34 to go in the first half. Florida Tech would add five more goals in the final 7 minutes, 20 seconds to take a 14-2 lead into halftime.

The Panthers scored the first five goals of the second half, the last from Schiano midway through the half, to take a 19-2 lead before Malone stopped the Florida Tech run with 11:48 left. Gray notched the final goal of the night for the Pioneers with 1:15 remaining before Modica tallied her sixth and final goal of the contest with one second left.

Malone had a team-high three draw controls for the Pioneers while Emily Gleason had two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Modica paced the Panthers with seven draw controls and two caused turnovers, with Mary Gormley adding five draw controls.

Kaitlin Winnie played 36 minutes in goal for the Pioneers and made eight saves, with Brooke Wagner adding five saves in 22 minutes of playing time. Stephanie Stuart (no saves) and Chloe Zador (one save) split the action in the goal for the Panthers.

Tusculum will resume its South Atlantic Conference schedule on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Newberry.
