Tusculum recognized as IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for 2016

GRAND LAKE, Colo. --- The Tusculum College women's lacrosse team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association and Zag Sports as an Academic Honor Squad selection for the 2016 season, the IWLCA has announced.

The Pioneers were one of 45 Division II programs cited for maintaining a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher for the 2015-16 academic year. It is the second consecutive year that the Pioneers have been recognized by the IWLCA, and Tusculum joins Wingate as South Atlantic Conference member schools that earned Academic Honor Squad status this year.

Tusculum had a team GPA of 3.16 during the 2015-16 academic year, with 11 players earning a spot on the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll this year for having a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30. In addition, 17 members of the squad qualified for the Tusculum Athletic Director's Spring Honor Roll for maintaining a semester or cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

The Pioneers finished 11-6 overall and went 4-4 in the SAC during the 2016 season, good enough for fourth place in the league. Tusculum defeated Brevard 15-8 in the opening round of the SAC Tournament for its first-ever postseason victory, before falling in the semifinals to eventual tournament champion and NCAA Division II quarterfinalist Queens University of Charlotte.
