INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The Tusculum College
women's lacrosse team was listed in several categories in the final
2015 NCAA Division II women's lacrosse statistics.
The Pioneers, led by South Atlantic Conference coach of the
year Jenna Handshoe, finished its inaugural campaign with a 10-5
overall record and a 0.667 win percentage that was 24th nationally
and second in the SAC. TC's highest national ranking as a team was
seventh in ground balls per game at 24.80.
Tusculum's scoring offense was 21st in the country with 13.67
goals per game while its 6.73 assists per game ranked 16th. On the
defensive side, the Pioneers ranked 17th in caused turnovers with
9.40 per game.
Several Pioneers also ranked near the top of various NCAA stat
categories. Sophomore midfielder Calyn Kelly was seventh nationally
and second in the SAC in ground balls per game at 3.80 while
freshman midfielder Madison Malone ranked 10th with 3.67.
Malone, an All-SAC honorable mention selection, also finished
27th nationally and second in the conference in assists per game
(1.87), 34th nationally and second in the league in overall assists
(28), and led the SAC while ranking 30th nationally in caused
turnovers at 1.67 per game.
Junior midfielder Kelsey Crow led the Pioneers in every major
scoring category. Crow, an All-SAC first team selection, ranked
15th in the country in goals per game (3.60), 21st in points per
game (4.40), and 28th in total goals (54). Crow was second in the
SAC in all three categories as well.
Sophomore attacker Cheyenne Bray ranked 38th in the NCAA in
draw controls per game (4.00) en route picking up All-SAC second
team honors. In the cage, freshman goalie Brooke Wagner led the SAC
and ranked 17th nationally in save percentage at 0.456. The All-SAC
honorable mention selection also ranked 34th in goals-against
average at 11.38.
The Pioneers, after becoming Tusculum's 16th varsity sport,
finished third in the SAC in 2015. TC earned the best record of all
the first-year programs in DII and picked up wins over established
conference opponents Wingate, Newberry and Catawba. Tusculum also
defeated fellow first-year programs Lincoln Memorial and UVA Wise
and earned road wins at non-conference foes Converse and Shorter.
