GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Kelsey Crow and
Cheyenne Bray combined for 11 points in Tusculum College's 17-9
victory over Brevard College on Saturday afternoon in South
Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action at Pioneer
Field.
Crow had a game-high six points on five goals and an assist
while Bray scored four times and assisted on a goal. Rachel Del
Duca had four points on a pair of goals and two assists, while
Madison Malone and Erin Sims each had three points. Savannah
Elliott scored two goals and Lillian Lesniewski and Shelby Moon
each had an assist.
Tusculum opened the game with three unanswered goals in the
first 10 minutes of action. BC got on the board with a goal from
Livia Harrienger to make the score 3-1, but Elliott found the cage
for the first time and Crow registered her second goal to improve
the Pioneer lead 5-1 with just under 13 minutes remaining in the
first half.
Brevard cut the deficit to 5-2 with a goal from Alyssa Barrett
just 11 seconds after Crow's score. However, TC responded with
three more unanswered scores and led 8-2 with 6:37 to play in the
first half. After the Tornados broke up the run with a goal, the
Pioneers scored three final times in the first half to lead 10-3 at
the break.
Crow opened the second frame with-back-to-back goals in the
first five minutes to increase TC's lead to 12-3. The Tornados
responded with two-straight scores of their own, but the Pioneers
reeled off four unanswered scores to push its lead to the largest
of the game at 16-5 with 12:24 to play in the game.
BC did score four of the game's last five goals in the final
10 minutes of play, but Tusculum earned the eight-goal victory to
remain undefeated as a program at Pioneer Field. Barrett led the
Tornados with four goals while Caitlyn Nemeth scored three
times.
TC goalie Kaitlin Winnie earned the victory in the cage while
making five saves. Shelby Arsenault took the loss despite making 11
stops.
TC held a 35-28 advantage in ground balls led by a game-high
seven from Calyn Kelly. Malone caused five tornado turnovers while
Brevard finished with 35 overall. TC outshot BC 34-19 led by 10
from Crow. Brevard did hold a narrow 14-13 advantage in draw
controls.
Tusculum will return to action next Saturday when it travels
to Hartsville, South Carolina to face Coker College. First draw is
set for 1 p.m.
