ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College
sophomore midfielder Calyn Kelly has been named the Astroturf South
Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week,
announced today by the league office.
Kelly was a crucial part of Tusculum's (8-2, 4-1) two SAC
victories last week. She recorded a season-high nine ground balls
in the Pioneers' thrilling 17-16 comeback victory over Catawba on
Saturday. Kelly also tallied a season-best five caused turnovers,
including the crucial defensive play late in the game that allowed
TC to run out the clock after Kelsey Crow's game-winning
goal.
The Ellenwood, Georgia native also had four ground balls and
three caused turnovers in the Pioneers' 16-2 victory at LMU on
Wednesday. Kelly also chipped in five draw controls in the two-game
span en-route to earning her first Defensive Player of the Week
honor this season.
Offensively, Kelly scored a pair of goals and assisted on
another against the Indians. She also had two points on a goal and
an assist versus the Railsplitters.
Kelly leads the Pioneers this season with 38 ground balls and
14 caused turnovers. She has accumulated 19 points on 11 goals and
eight assists, while 25 of her 30 shots have been on frame for an
.833 shot percentage. Kelly also has tallied 20 draw
controls.
Kelly and the rest of the Pioneers will be back in action on
Saturday when they play host to Brevard College at 12 p.m.
