ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum forward Cheyenne
Bray and goalie Brooke Wagner have been named the Astroturf South
Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week, announced
today by the league office. Bray was tabbed as Offensive Player of
the Week, while Wagner earned the defensive nod.
Both players were instrumental in Tusculum's (4-1, 1-1 SAC)
16-11 victory at Wingate University on Saturday, the first
conference win in the Pioneers' inaugural season.
Bray, a junior from Collierville, Tenn., was in on seven of
TC's 16 goals against the Bulldogs. She finished with seven points
in the contest as she dished out five assists and chipped in a pair
of scores. Bray also posted six draw controls and picked up five
ground balls in the win. The award is her second Offensive Player
of the Week honor this season.
Wagner, a freshman from Snellville, Ga., recorded 15 saves,
including nine stops in the second half to preserve the Pioneers'
five-goal halftime lead. She faced 32 Bulldog shots to finish the
contest with a save percentage of 57.7. The honor is her second
Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Bray leads the Pioneers and the SAC with 24 points on a
league-high 10 assists and 14 goals. She also has a conference-best
27 draw controls and has picked up nine groundballs and caused
three turnovers. Bray's 14 goals have come on just 17 shots on goal
for an astounding shooting percentage of .895, and two of those
scores have been game winners.
Wagner is leading the SAC in saves with 50 and save percentage
of 53.8. She is allowing 11.12 goals per game, which is fourth-best
in the conference, and she has a 3-1 record in the cage.
Bray, Wagner and the rest of the Pioneers will be back in
action tomorrow (March 10) when they travel to Rome, Georgia to
face off against Shorter University. First draw is set for 1
p.m.
