GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Senior midfielder
Kelsey Crow registered seven points on six goals and an assists in
Tusculum's 15-4 victory over St. Andrews in women's lacrosse action
from Pioneer Field on Friday night. It was the first home game in
program history.
Tusculum (2-0) received contributions from several players
offensively, including junior attacker Cheyenne Bray who scored
three goals for the second-straight game. She also added two
assists for a total of five points.
Freshman defender Rachel Del Duca and freshman attacker
Savannah Elliott each had four points on a pair of goals and
assists. Freshman midfielder Madison Malone had a game-high three
assists to go with a goal for a total of four points, while
sophomore midfielder Kelli McCalla also tallied a score.
Freshman goalie Brooke Wagner (2-0) earned the victory in the
cage after making six saves. St. Andrews' (0-1) goalie Brittani
Biddinger was dealt the loss after giving up all 15 Pioneer goals
and making three saves. TC freshman Kaitlin Winnie started the game
in goal and played 17 minutes in the cage while also playing in the
field as a defender.
Del Duca scored the first goal in Pioneer Field history less
than a minute into the game. TC would open the contest with four
unanswered goals in the first five minutes of action to take a 4-0
lead. Crow scored her first goal in the fourth minute, followed by
a score from Elliott and Crow's second tally.
St. Andrews' Risa Wautel put the Knights on the scoreboard
with a goal in the ninth minute, but the Pioneers put up four more
unanswered scores and took a commanding 8-1 lead with 13:38 to play
in the first half. Crow had two more scores during that stretch,
while McCalla and Bray each registered a goal.
The Knights' Xavonya Attwood registered an unassisted tally in
the 18th minute, but Malone answered with her first career goal two
minutes later to make the score 9-2. TC closed out the half with
two more goals in the final ten minutes of the opening frame.
Elliott recorded her second goal of the game before Bray scored on
a free-position attempt with 29 seconds remaining to give TC an
11-2 halftime lead.
Attwood opened the second half scoring less than a minute in,
but Crow answered with her fifth goal of the night four minutes
later to make the score 12-3. Attwood scored St. Andrews final goal
of the game with 21 minutes remaining.
TC possessed the ball for the remainder of the contest and
scored three more goals in the game's final 20 minutes. Crow added
her sixth and final goal, while Bray and Del Duca added to their
tallies.
Defensively, freshman defender Shelby Gray led the Pioneers
with three ground balls. On the draw, Bray and sophomore midfielder
Calyn Kelly each had three draw controls. TC outshot SAU 21-13 and
had 12 draw controls to the Knights' nine.
Attwood led St. Andrews with three goals on five shots, while
Wautel added a goal on a pair of shots.
The Pioneers will be back in action next Saturday when they
play their first ever South Atlantic Conference game in Hickory,
North Carolina against Lenoir-Rhyne University. First-draw is set
for noon.
