Padilla shoots second day 71 and moves to eighth at the SAC Championship

SALISBURY, N.C. --- Tusculum University sophomore Reagan Padilla fired an even par round of 71 to move up 11 spots on the leaderboard following the second round of the 2024 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being hosted by Catawba College at the Country Club of Salisbury.

Padilla was one of six competitors to shoot par or better in Monday's second round and moved into a four-way tie for eighth place.

Tusculum shaved 13 shots off its opening round tally as TU posted a team score of 314 and moved up one spot in the standings and is in ninth with a 36-hole total of 641.

Two-time defending champion and seventh-ranked Anderson remains in the lead with 580, 15 shots ahead of second place Lincoln Memorial (595). Carson-Newman is third with 607, while Catawba and Wingate are tie for fourth place at 608. Limestone is sixth with 610, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne (613), Newberry (621), Tusculum (641), Coker (648), Emory & Henry (665), Mars Hill (701) and UVA Wise (710).

Padilla was one-under par after six holes before posting a bogey on No. 7. She answered with a birdie and followed with her second bogey for a 35 on the front nine. She would go two-under par for her second round as she posted birdies on No. 12 and No. 14. She followed with back-to-back pars, but would bogey the final two holes to finish with 71.

Padilla's second round total matched her career-best 71 she posted last October in the second round of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational, which was also held at the Country Club of Salisbury. Her 71 is also the second lowest score by a Pioneer during the SAC Championship with Rachel McFarland's final round 69 being better in the 2003 league championship.

LMU's Dilyara Bulambayeva has the 36-hole lead with her one-over par total 143 including Monday's 70. She leads by one shot over Anderson's Aly Francis (72-72=144) and two clear of the duo of Zoey Iglesias (Anderson) and Rachel Mathieson (LMU) who are tied for third with 145.

Tusculum freshman Anna Ahonen is tied for 32nd place with 156 including Monday's 76 which included a one-over par 37 on her inward nine. Senior Adrienne O'Brien is 46th with 80-85=165, sophomore Lindsay Self is 49th with 90-82=172 and senior Emilie Bergh-Jacobsen is 57th with 91-87=178.

The final round will be held Tuesday morning on the par-71, 5,935-yard layout. Tusculum will tee off on the hole No. 1 starting at 8:30 a.m. as the Pioneers will be paired with Lenoir-Rhyne and Newberry.
