FLOSSMOOR, Ill. --- Tusculum College's Ciara Rattana has won the 85th annual Chicago Women's District Golf Association (CWDGA) Championship Tournament which was held this week at Flossmoor Country Club.
Rattana, a rising junior on the Pioneer golf team, won Thursday's match play championship over Lindsay Davis, 5 & 4 closing out the title on the 15th hole. The two-time All-South Atlantic Conference first team honoree was three-under par on her round when the match was decided with five birdies, eight pars and two bogeys.
Rattana got to the championship with Thursday morning's 8 & 7 decision over Carolyn Burke in the tournament semifinal.
Rattana stormed through the three-day event as she defeated Kathy Mehl on Tuesday and Zoe Wong on Wednesday to advance to Thursday's championship flight semifinal.
Rattana, a native of Chicago, Illinois, led the Pioneers in scoring once again this past spring with her 78.54 stroke average which is the fifth lowest average in school history and the second-best by a TC sophomore.
Rattana recorded seven top-20 finishes in her nine events, including five times in the top-10 and twice in the top-five. The 2015 SAC Freshman of the Year finished runner-up at the Pioneer Classic, which included a season-low round 73 on the final day of the tournament. She tied for third place at the Tusculum Fall Classic and posted a pair seventh place finishes at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational and this week's Agnes McAmis Memorial. She also finished seventh at the 2016 SAC Championship and earned a spot on the SAC All-Tournament second team.
In her two seasons at Tusculum, Rattana has a 78.53 career scoring average, which is currently the second-lowest in program history.
