Women's Golf repeats as Pioneer Classic champions

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum had three players finish in the top-five in winning the second annual Pioneer Classic Sunday at the Nolichucky View Golf Course.

The Pioneers repeat as champions as the Black and Orange carded a two-day score of 623 to win by 18 shots over runner-up Trevecca Nazarene (641). TC followed up Saturday's opening round 311 with a 312 on Sunday.

Tusculum sophomore Ciara Rattana carded the best score of the final round with a 73 as she finished with two-day total 147, one shot behind tournament medalist Alexa Rippy of Trevecca (71-75=146).

TC freshman Katie Tomassoni finished third with 73-79=152, while teammate Taylor Lambertsen carded 81-79=160 to finish fifth as both joined Rattana on the All-Tournament Team.

The Pioneers' Cydney Murrell (83-83=166) and Taylor White (86-81=167) finished eighth and 10th to shore up the Tusculum scoring.

Tusculum also field a second squad as TC Black finished third with a 688, including Sunday's final round 339, a 10-shot improvement from Saturday. Kelsey Haun led TC Black with 81-85=166 to tie for eighth place. Calley Lawson (86-83=169) and Blythe Scrivner (89-80=169) tied for 12th place, while Lindsay Butler finish 16th with 93-91=184. Trista Holder (100-103=203) finished 25th to wrap up the Tusculum Black scoring.

TC also had two student-athletes compete as individual competitors. Senior Kelly Horrell (92-99=191) finished 21st, while Sayre Hopper (99-99=198) placed 24th.

Tusculum's 623 is tied for the eighth lowest team score in program history. Rattana's 147 is tied for the fifth-lowest 36-hole score ever by a Pioneer women's golfer.

The Pioneers return to action Feb. 6-7, 2016 as they host the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
