Lawson, Baker named to Capital One Academic All-District Women's at-large team

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College student-athletes Calley Lawson and Sarah Baker have been named to the 2015 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District III Women's At-Large first team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Lawson, a junior on the Tusculum women's golf team earns Academic All-District honors for a second straight year, while Baker, a sophomore on the TC women's tennis team, makes her All-District debut.

Lawson and Baker advance to the Academic All-America® ballot, which will be announced next month. Women's at-large sports include: bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.

Lawson becomes only the second two-time Academic All-District winner in Tusculum women's golf history, joining former teammate Jillian Corum who garnered the honor twice in 2012 and again in 2013.

Lawson, a native of Gaithersburg, Maryland, has a 4.00 cumulative grade point average while majoring in special education and early elementary education.

She posted an 86.21 stroke average, while competing in all 10 events this season, including a season-best eighth place showing at the inaugural Pioneer Classic.

At this year's South Atlantic Conference championship, Lawson was named the 2015 recipient of the Bob Dibble Spirit of the Game Award, which is named in honor of the long-time Tusculum coach and is selected by the league's women's golf coaches. The award recognizes the SAC women's golf team member that demonstrates a genuine love of the game, outstanding character, leadership and places team before self.

Lawson was named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholar Team in each of the last two seasons and is also a two-time recipient of the Tusculum Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award. In her rookie season, she was named the winner of the Tusculum Freshman of the Year Academic Award. She is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor, Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Tusculum Dean's List, President's List and the Charles Oliver Gray Honors List. She is also a recipient of the Class of 1932 Endowed Scholarship and the Dorothy Carter Sander '32 Endowed Scholarship.

Baker, a Marietta, Georgia product, has a 3.84 GPA while majoring in pre-veterinary medicine.

On the Tusculum tennis team, she accounted for an impressive 18-2 singles record as the Pioneers finished runner-up for the league title and earned a No. 31 NCAA Division II national ranking.

Baker was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-Scholar Athlete Team in 2014 was the 2013-14 recipient of the Tusculum Freshman of the Year Academic Award.

She is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor, Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Tusculum Dean's List and the Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.

Members of the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Team are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which includes all colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt Conference.

The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2014-15 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
