Pioneers host Tusculum Fall Classic next week at Link Hills

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men and women's golf teams will host the Tusculum Fall Classic, this Monday and Tuesday at Link Hills Country Club.

The opening round begins Monday morning at 11 a.m. with the women's tournament beginning on the front nine at Link Hills and the men's tournament starting on hole No. 10. Tuesday's final rounds are slated to start at 9 a.m.

The Fall Classic is a unique collegiate event, celebrating its ninth year this season. The Classic is two tournaments held simultaneously, but a combined champion will also be recognized with the daily aggregate scores of each school's men and women's programs combined.

The men's tournament will feature seven colleges and universities, including the Pioneers, who won this event the first four years of the Classic's history (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009).

The women's event will feature players from nine collegiate programs, including host Tusculum who has won this tournament twice (2006, 2012).

Participating in this year's men's field with Tusculum are fellow South Atlantic Conference members Catawba, Lenoir-Rhyne, Mars Hill and Lincoln Memorial, who is the three-time defending champion of the men's tournament. Also participating in the 2014 TC Classic are: Tennessee Wesleyan and defending NJCAA national champion Walters State. LMU senior Tre Mullins returns as the defending individual medalist, tying a tournament record with his two-day score of 65-69=134 (-8) last year.

Competing in this year's women's tournament are Tusculum, Catawba, Converse, King, Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial, Mars Hill, UNC Pembroke, North Greenville and West Alabama. UNC Pembroke is the defending champion, its second TC Fall Classic title in three years. UNCP senior Dana Watkins will be looking to become only the second player in tournament history to capture medalist honors twice. Watkins won the individual title in 2011 with a score of 74-72=146.

Tusculum has won the combined championship in three of the eight Fall Classics held (2006, 2007, 2009). LMU has won the combined title in each of the last four years.

Admission to the Tusculum Classic is free and open to the public.
