SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College senior Sara Howard finished sixth at the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship. The Pioneers posted a three-day score of 334-351-371=1056 to finish seventh in the 11-team conference field, held at the Sevierville Golf Club - Highlands Course.
Howard, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., earned a spot on the SAC All-Tournament second team for a second consecutive year. On Tuesday, she also established a new program record by playing in her 86th competitive round, surpassing the previous mark held by Shannon Palenkas (85 from 2003-07).
Wingate University led wire-to-wire to win the SAC title with a tournament score of 996. Coker College, competing in its first SAC Championship, finished runner-up with 1013. Carson-Newman University and Newberry College finished tied for third with 1015. Queens University of Charlotte was fifth with 1026, followed by Catawba College (1027), Tusculum, Lincoln Memorial University (1062), Anderson University (1095), Lenoir-Rhyne University (1113) and Mars Hill University (1140).
Freshman Taylor Lambertsen tied for 18th place with 80-81-96=257, while sophomore Calley Lwson finished 40th with 85-95-96=276. Kelly Horrell shot 94-91-96=281 to finish 47th, while Lindsay Butler placed 53rd with 87-98-106=291 to wrap up the TC scoring. Tusculum junior Alec Cunningham tied for 40th place with 90-95-91=276 as an individual competitor.
