Tusculum to compete for SAC Women's golf championship this week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College women's golf team will be vying for its third South Atlantic Conference title as the 2014 Food Lion SAC Championship begins on Sunday at the Sevierville Golf Club on the Highlands Course. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held this Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Admission to the tournament is free.

It has been a growing experience this year for Coach Bob Dibble's golf team which is comprised of one senior, one junior, two sophomores and two freshmen.

The Pioneers are hoping to build on the momentum from Tuesday's sixth place finish at the Agnes McAmis Memorial Invitational. TC finished third amongst the eight SAC schools competing at McAmis Memorial.

Leading the charge for the Pioneers is 2014 All-SAC second team standout Sara Howard. Howard, a senior from Knoxville, will be putting a close on what has been an outstanding collegiate career at Tusculum. Howard leads the squad with her 79.72 scoring average, which is currently the seventh lowest in program history. Howard has recorded six top-20 performances, while playing in all nine tournaments this year. She has finished in the top-10 on three occasions, including a fourth-place showing at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational. She also tied for seventh at the Tusculum Fall Classic and ninth at the McAmis Memorial.

Howard has posted an 80.78 career stroke average, which is the third-best in school history. She has played in 82 competitive rounds during her career, which are tied for the fourth most in program history.
She has finished in the top-20 on 21 separate occasions, including 11 times in the top-10 and three times in the top-five.

At last year's SAC Championship, Howard tied for ninth place to earn a spot on the 2013 SAC All-Tournament Team.

Freshman Taylor Lambertsen has posted an 84.72 average while playing in all nine tournaments this year. The Palos Park, Ill. native has accounted for three top-30 performances with her best showing coming at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational where she fired a two-day 80-81=161. Lambertsen's scoring average is the seventh lowest in school history for Tusculum rookies.

Sophomore Calley Lawson has also played in all nine events this year where she has an 87.61 stroke average. The Gaithersburg, Md. product has accounted for a pair of top-30 showings, including this week's 23rd place finish at the McAmis Memorial. At last year's SAC Championship, she tied for 18th place with scores of 84-85-85=254.

Sophomore Kelly Horrell has finished in the top-50 in three of her eight events this season, while posting a 90.60 scoring average. The Las Vegas, Nev. Native finished 42nd at the Tusculum Fall Classic and 44th at the McAmis Memorial.

Freshman Lindsay Butler has played in six events this year, while tallying a 93.17 scoring average. The Milan, Ohio rookie shot a season-low 86 in her latest round at the McAmis Memorial on Tuesday and finished tied for 53rd place.

Junior Alec Cunningham will be competing as an individual competitor at this week's SAC Championship. She has an 84.08 scoring average this year, with her best showing coming at the Tusculum Fall Classic where she tied for 14th place with 81-75=156. The Knoxville, Tenn. native tied for 24th place at the 2013 SAC Championship.

The Pioneers won the first two SAC Women's Golf Championships held by the league in 2000 and 2001. Tusculum finished runner-up at last year's championship held in Sevierville.
