GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men
and women's golf teams will host the Tusculum Fall Classic, this
Monday and Tuesday at Link Hills Country Club.
The opening round begins Monday morning at 10:40 a.m. with the
women's tournament beginning on the front nine at Link Hills and
the men's tournament starting on hole No. 10. Tuesday's final
rounds are slated to start at 8:20 a.m.
The Fall Classic is a unique collegiate event, celebrating its eighth year this season. The Classic is two tournaments held simultaneously, but a combined champion will also recognized with the daily aggregate scores of each school's men and women's programs combined.
The men's tournament will feature 11 colleges and universities, including the Pioneers, who won this event the first four years of the Classic's history (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009).
The women's event will feature players from 12 collegiate programs, including host Tusculum who has won this tournament twice (2006, 2012), including last year's thrilling one-shot victory over Lincoln Memorial and UNC Pembroke.
Participating in this year's men's field with Tusculum are fellow South Atlantic Conference members Brevard, Catawba, Lenoir-Rhyne, Mars Hill and Lincoln Memorial, who is the two-defending champion of the men's tournament. Also participating in the 2013 TC Classic are: Milligan, USC Lancaster, Spartanburg Methodist, Tennessee Wesleyan and Walters State. LMU sophomore Connor Froning is expected to return as the defending individual medalist, shooting a two-day score of 67-69=136 (-6) as the 2012 event.
Competing in this year's women's tournament are Tusculum, Brevard, Catawba, Converse, King, Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial, Mars Hill, UNC Pembroke, North Greenville, Spartanburg Methodist and West Alabama. Tusculum made a strong charge in last year's final round shooting 303 to post a two-day team score of 614. Two years ago, UNC Pembroke became the first team to shoot under 600 in Classic history as the Lady Braves won the 2011 title with 598.
Tusculum has won the combined championship in three of the seven Fall Classics held (2006, 2007, 2009). LMU has won the combined title in each of the last three years.
Admission to the Tusculum Classic is free and open to the public.
