Herbert shoots 77, climbs leaderboard to 35th at NCAA South Regional

LAKELAND, Fla. --- Tusculum's Emee Herbert posted a second round 77 and is tied for 35th place following day two action of the 2013 NCAA Division II South Regional.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,149-yard Lone Palm Golf Club and hosted by Florida Southern College.

Herbert is in a three-way tie for the 35th spot with 84-77=161, moving up seven spots on the tournament leader board.

Herbert, the 2013 South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, finished with a birdie 13 pars, three bogeys and a triple bogey.

The Johns Creek, Ga. sophomore started the day with a birdie three on the par-4 first hole. She would bogey two of the next three holes, before rattling off four consecutive pars. The major hiccup on her round came on the 379-yard, par-4 ninth hole where she posted a triple-bogey seven.

But the two-time All-SAC first team standout bounce back by shooting a one-over par 37 on her inward nine, including pars on her final seven holes.

Lynn University's Samantha Smolen carded an even-par 72 on Monday and sits atop the leader board with 74-72=146.

The final round will be held on Tuesday. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team will advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championship, which will be held May 15-18, at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
