Herbert selected to compete at NCAA South Women's Golf Regional

INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division II Women's Golf Committee has selected the teams and individuals that will compete in the 2013 DII Championships and Tusculum College sophomore Emee Herbert will compete at the South Super Regional starting this Sunday.

The three-day, 54-hole South Super Region Championship will be held at the Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, Fla., May 5-7, hosted by Florida Southern College.

Each super regional will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the national championship.

Herbert becomes the second player in school history to play as an individual participant in a NCAA II event. Former TC great Rachel McFarland finished fifth at the 2003 South Regional, also held at Lone Palm Golf Club, where she finished fifth to earn a berth to the NCAA National Championship. McFarland would post a 16th finish in the national championship.

Herbert, a native of Johns Creek, Ga., is making her second appearance in the NCAA Regional, but first as an individual competitor. Herbert and the Pioneers earned a team berth last season, the program's first NCAA II postseason appearance. TC finished sixth at last year's regional held in Pace, Fla. as Herbert posted a 54-hole score of 224 to finish in ninth place and just one shot out of a playoff for the final individual spot to advance to nationals. Herbert's 224 was the lowest three-round tally in TC and SAC history.

This season, Herbert has a 76.25 scoring average, which is the lowest in program history and third-best ever by a SAC women's golfer. She has finished in the top 20 in seven of her eight events this season, including six top-10 performances and five in the top-5. For her efforts, she was named the 2013 South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and earned All-SAC first team accolades for a second straight season.

She finished runner-up in three tournaments, including the Tusculum Fall Classic, Patsy Rendleman Invitational and the Agnes McAmis Memorial. Earlier this month, she finished fourth at the SAC Championships to earn a spot on the SAC All-Tournament first team for a second time.

The nine teams competing at this week's NCAA II South Super Regional are: Nova Southeastern University, Lynn University, Rollins College, Florida Southern, Barry University, Florida Tech, University of West Florida, Armstrong Atlantic State University at Newberry College.

The four individual competitors selected are Herbert, Meghan Moore (UNC Pembroke), Teresa Calballer Hernani (Lander University) and Clare Connolly (Saint Leo University).

The 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championships will be held May 15-18, at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
