Emee Herbert named SAC Player of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College women's golfer Emee Herbert has been named to South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year announced league officials on Thursday.

Herbert and senior teammate Jillian Corum were also tabbed to the All-SAC first team for a second consecutive year.

Herbert, a sophomore from Johns Creek, Ga., becomes the second player in program history to earn this honor as she joins Shannon Palenkas who garnered SAC Player of the Year accolades during the 2006-07 campaign.

In her 13 rounds this season, Herbert has posted a 75.77 scoring average, which is on pace to break the school single-season mark of 76.71 she established in her rookie campaign in 2011-12. The 2012 SAC Freshman of the Year has finished in the top-20 in six of her seven events this year, including four top-five performances. She has finished runner-up in three tournaments this year, including her second place showing at the Agnes McAmis Memorial earlier this week. She also finished runner-up at the Tusculum Fall Classic and the Patsy Rendleman Invitational. She shot par or lower on four occasions, including a two-under par 70 in the final round of the Flagler Fall Slam.

Corum, a senior from Knoxville, Tenn., is second on the team with her 78.47 stroke average, which is the fifth lowest in TC history. Like Herbert, she has posted six top-20 finishes, including four in the top-five. Her best outing came at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate last fall as she captured medalist honors for a school record fifth time as she posted a one-over par 72-73=145. She also finished third at the TSYS Collegiate Classic and fifth at both the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate and the Tusculum Fall Classic.

Corum continues to haul in the conference hardware as she was named the SAC Women's Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year earlier this week.

The Pioneers will compete at the Food Lion SAC Championship in Sevierville, Tenn. starting this Sunday morning with the opening round. The women's championship will be played on the Highlands Course of the Sevierville Golf Club.
