Tusculum women listed in final Golfstat statistics

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. --- The Tusculum College women's golf team ended the 2011-12 season listed 19th in the final Golfstat NCAA Division II head-to-head standings.

The Pioneers are listed in eight team statistical categories, while five Tusculum players are listed individually.

Tusculum ended the season listed fifth in the nation in subpar strokes per round at 1.57. TC was also seventh in the country in par five scoring (5.27) and 11th in total birdies (169). The Pioneers are tied for 14th in eagles (2) and 16th in average score (79.79), score versus par (+7.92) and par three scoring (3.40). TC was also 19th in par four scoring at 4.52.

Rookie Emee Herbert is listed in seven individual categories, including: 25th in stroke average (76.71), 13th in par five scoring (5.08), 19th in par three scoring (3.24), 27th in score versus par (+4.78), 32nd in subpar strokes per round (1.77), 35th in par four scoring (4.37) and 41st in birdies (39).

Herbert, the 2012 South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year, finished in the top 20 in 10 of her 11 events, including eight top-10 performances and four in the top five. The All-SAC First Team selection finished runner-up at the Anderson Invitational and the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate. She also finished third at the Flagler Fall Slam and the South Atlantic Conference Championship.

At the NCAA Division II South Regional, the Johns Creek, Ga. native finished in sole possession of ninth place with 74-78-72=224 (+8) as she finished one shot out of a playoff for the final individual spot to advance to the NCAA National Championship. Herbert's 54-hole score of 224 is the lowest in school history and the third-best by a SAC golfer.

Last week, she went 5-0 in her match play events, including a 3 & 1 victory over Rika Park of the University of Miami, to win the 2012 Women's Southern Amateur in Charlotte, N.C.

Junior Jillian Corum is also ranked in seven categories, including: second in par five scoring (5.00), 14th in subpar strokes per round (2.05), 30th in birdies (43), 40th in score versus par (+5.71), 42nd in scoring average (77.58), 46th in par four scoring (4.41) and 76th in par 3 scoring (3.38).

Corum, a Knoxville, Tenn. native (Fulton HS), garnered All-SAC First Team recognition as her stroke average was third in the league this season and the second lowest in school history. She accounted for nine top 20 performances, including six in the top 10. One of those top finishes was her medalist victory at the Agnes McAmis Memorial were she carded a school 36-hole record 141, while claiming her school record fourth individual title.

Corum finished eighth at the SAC Championship to claim All-Tournament honors for a second straight year. She finished 14th at the NCAA II South Regional with the second lowest 54-hole score in school history at 229 to lower her career stroke average 80.38, which is the best in school history. She was recognized earlier this month for her academic achievement and was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 At-Large First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Senior Aly Pugh is listed four times in this year's final Golfstat report, including: 57th in subpar stroke per round (1.50), 68th in birdies (33), 76th in par three scoring (3.38) and 93rd in par five scoring (5.45). Pugh, who gradated from Tusculum earlier this month, finished third on the team with her 80.96 scoring average, which is the seventh best in TC history. She recorded four top 20 finishes, while claiming medalist honors at the Anderson Invitational last fall. The Harrisburg, Pa. native wrapped up her TC career with an 83.67 stroke average which is the fifth lowest in school history.

Sophomore Sara Howard (Knoxville, Tenn./South Doyle HS) is 74th in par five scoring (5.36) and 86th in subpar strokes per round (1.23). Howard was fourth on the team with her 81.25 scoring average, which is the eighth lowest ever by a Pioneer. She lowered her two-year stroke average to 81.70 which is currently the second lowest in school history (min. 2,000 strokes).

Senior Katie Doane (Sevierville, Tenn./Pigeon Forge HS) finished tied for 78th in subpar strokes per round at 1.32. Doane, who graduated from Tusculum earlier this month, recorded an 82.46 stroke average which is the 13th-best in school history. She caps an outstanding collegiate career, where she posted an 85.23 average for the ninth lowest in TC history.

Tusculum enjoyed an outstanding season as the Pioneers finished in the top five in nine of its 11 events, including two tournament victories and the program's first-ever NCAA II Tournament appearance.
