GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College will
host the 14th annual Agnes McAmis Memorial Women's Golf
Invitational, this Monday and Tuesday at Link Hills Country
Club.
This year's tournament field consists of teams and players
representing 18 institutions from five different states including
Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky, South Carolina and Georgia.
Eight schools represented will be competing in the upcoming Food
South Atlantic Conference Championship, later this month in
Conover, N.C. Joining Tusculum are fellow SAC members Anderson
University, Brevard College, Carson-Newman College, Catawba
College, Lincoln Memorial University, Mars Hill College and Wingate
University.
The field also includes NCAA Division II squads Belmont Abbey College, Erskine College, King College, Limestone College, North Georgia College & State University, Pfeiffer University and University of West Georgia.
NCAA Division III Methodist University is the defending McAmis Memorial Champion, winning the team title in its inaugural trip in 2010, shooting a tournament record 604. The Monarchs have captured a remarkable 23 national championships, including 13 in a row entering this season.
Spartanburg Methodist College returns to Greeneville, while the lone tournament newcomer is Lindsey Wilson College of Columbia, Ky. LWC is currently ranked 14th in the latest NAIA Golfstat head-to-head standings as the Blue Raiders look to return to Greeneville later this spring for the NAIA National Championship, hosted at Link Hills.
There are four previous champions of the McAmis Memorial in this
year's field. Tusculum has won the title three times with its last
one coming in 2000. Two-time champion Belmont Abbey had its quest
of becoming the first back-to-back-to-back champion halted last
year by Methodist. Lincoln Memorial captured the 2001 event.
The opening round starts Monday morning at 11 a.m. on the
5,832-yard, par 72 layout. Admission to the two-day, 36-hole
tournament is free and open to the public.
