ETOWAH, N.C. --- The Tusculum College women's golf team carded a 54-hole total of 1004 to place sixth at the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship, Tuesday at the Etowah Valley Country Club & Resort.

Tusculum junior Emily Palenkas finished tied for 20th place with 83-81-85=249. Rookie Jillian Corum posted 78-86-88=252 and tied for 24th, while sophomore Katie Doane carded a 82-84-87=253 to finish 27th.

Senior Mary Ann Vizcarrondo wrapped up one of the finest playing careers in school history as she finished with 86-86-83=255 to tie for 28th place. Vizcarrondo ends her collegiate career with an 82.30 scoring average, which is the lowest in school history in her 76 competitive rounds.

Sophomore Aly Pugh finished 31st with 91-84-85=260 to round out the Tusculum team scoring.

Playing as individual competitors, junior Adriana Vizcarrondo tied for 24th place with 83-81-88=252, while freshman Haley Rye shot 95-94-87=276 to place 39th.

Newberry College won the team title, led by tournament medalist Maria Besio. The Scarlet & Gray posted a 54-hole tournament record 923, finishing 18 shots ahead of second place Carson-Newman College (941). Besio captured the individual title as she matched a SAC Tournament record with her 74-76-75=225.

Wingate University finished third with 984, followed by Lincoln Memorial University (988), Catawba College (990), Tusculum, Lenoir-Rhyne University (1011) and Mars Hill College (1078).
