ETOWAH, N.C. --- The Tusculum College women's golf team is in fifth place at the halfway point of the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship, held Monday at the Etowah Valley Country Club & Resort. The start of Monday's 36-hole format was delayed due to frost, forcing the opening day to be shortened to 27 holes.

Tusculum freshman Jillian Corum is tied for 10th place with her 27-hole tally of 78-41=119. Sophomore Katie Doane is tied for 15th with 82-40=122, while junior Emily Palenkas shot 83-41=124 and is tied for 23rd place. Senior Mary Ann Vizcarrondo is 30th with 86-42=128, while junior Aly Pugh is tied for 35th place with 91-45=136. Junior Adriana Vizcarrondo and freshman Haley Rye are competing as individual competitors. Vizcarrondo is tied for 15th place with 83-39=122, while Rye is 41st with 95-53=148.

Newberry College and Carson-Newman College are battling it out for first place. Newberry posted a 27-hole score of 461 and holds a one-shot advantage over Carson-Newman (461). Wingate University is third with 478, followed by Lincoln Memorial University (487), Tusculum, Catawba College (500), Lenoir-Rhyne University (509) and Mars Hill College (535).

The final 27 holes will be contested on Tuesday at the Etowah Valley Country Club & Resort.
