Methodist leads after opening round of Agnes McAmis Memorial

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Methodist University carded a tournament record 298 and leads after the opening round of the 13th annual Agnes McAmis Memorial Women's Golf Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at the 5,805-yard, par 72 Link Hills Country Club.

The Monarchs, who are making their McAmis Memorial debut, have three players in the top 10, led by defending NCAA Division III national champion Susan Martin, who posted a one-under par 71 and shares the first day lead with Kelsey Babos of Catawba College and Wingate University's Ashley Denton.

Methodist, the 12-time defending NCAA III national champion, leads by six shots over second place Carson-Newman College (304). Belmont Abbey College, the two-time defending McAmis Memorial champions, is in third place with 309. Queens University of Charlotte is fourth with 310, followed by Anderson University (311), Catawba College (317) and host Tusculum College (322).

Concord University is eighth with 324, followed by Lincoln Memorial University (325), Lenoir-Rhyne University (327), Erskine College (334), Tiffin University (347), Mars Hill College (347), Limestone College (366) and King College (390).

Paige Caldwell (Methodist), Sarah Jane Sinard (Carson-Newman) and Jessica Tarbet (Carson-Newman) are in a three-way tie for fourth place with 73, just two strokes off the lead. Melanie Manis (Carson-Newman) shot 74 and is in sole possession of seventh place, while Vivian Garciaferro (Concord) and Alana Swain (Methodist) are tied for eight the 75.

Three players are tied for 10th place with 76, including Brenna Martens (Lenoir-Rhyne), Meagan Wallace (Belmont Abbey) and Melissa Siviter (Belmont Abbey), while seven golfers share 13th place, including Emily Palenkas (Tusculum), Katie Thackerson (Lenoir-Rhyne), Camilla Mallberg (Queens), Carley Warrington (Belmont Abbey), Hayley Parks (Anderson), Kalyn Johnson (Anderson) and Natalie Mirra (Queens).

Tusculum's Jillian Corum and Katie Doane each posted 81 and are tied for 34th place. Mary Ann Vizcarrondo is tied for 43rd with her opening 83, while Adriana Vizcarrondo carded an 85 and is tied for 55th to round out the Pioneer scoring. TC's Aly Pugh shot 84 and is tied for 47th place, playing as an individual, while teammate Haley Rye is 77th with her 91.

The final round will be held on Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
