Daytona State Wins 2010 Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. --- Daytona State carded a final round 296 to finish with a two-day tally of 602 to win the eighth annual Tusculum/Kiawah Island Women's Golf Intercollegiate Sunday at Cougar Point Golf Club.

The Falcons, who are making their Kiawah Intercollegiate debut, won by six shots over Rollins, as the Tars finished with 608. Two-time defending Kiawah champion Florida Southern finished third with 609, including a Sunday-best 295.

Belmont Abbey finished fourth with 616, led by tournament medalist Melissa Siviter, who edged Daytona State's Mitsuki Katahira, in a scorecard playoff as both finished with a one-over par 145 during the weekend. Siviter's birdie on the fifth-hole proved to be the deciding score in the playoff.

Joining Siviter and Katahira on this year's All-Tournament Team are Ashley Mooney of Daytona State (74-74=145), who finished third, while Florida Southern's Emily Flanigan (79-70=149) and Joanne Coe of Rollins (72-77=149) tied for fourth place.

Saint Leo finished fifth in the team competition with 633, followed by Barry (644), Newberry (659), Armstrong Atlantic (664), Lynn (664), Savannah College of Art and Design (668), Wingate (673), UNC Pembroke (683), host Tusculum (695), Lincoln Memorial (696), Mount Olive (707) and Columbus State (746).

Tusculum's Emily Palenkas was the top finisher for the Pioneers as she tallied 82-85=167 to tie for 44th place. Mary Ann Vizcarrondo shot 88-87=175 to tie for 59th, while Jillian Corum finished 62nd with 90-86=176. Adriana Vizcarrondo carded 87-93=180 to finish 71st, while Katie Doane rounded out the team scoring with 93-90=183 (74th). Haley Rye finished 72nd with 91-90=181 playing as an individual competitor. Aly Pugh posted a second day 87, also as an individual.
