Doane, Pioneers Earn Runner-Up Honors at Anderson Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. --- The Tusculum College women's golf team carded a two-day score of 665 to finish second at the 2009 Anderson University Invitational.

Sophomore Katie Doane posted the lowest round of the day with her career-best 76 to finish with 157, just one shot behind tournament medalist Brenna Martens of Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Lenoir-Rhyne shot 329-327=656 to edge the Pioneers by nine shot. Host Anderson tied for third place with Lincoln Memorial University with 678. Spartanburg Methodist College was fifth with 695, followed by Erskine College (699) and Limestone College (730).

Rookie Haley Rye accounted for back-to-back round of 83 to shoot 166 and tie for eighth place. Freshman Jillian Corum finished 17th with 173, while senior Mary Ann Vizcarrondo and junior Emily Palenkas tied for 20th with 174.

The Pioneers are back in action again this weekend as they compete in the Women's Independent Collegiate Invitational Tournament in Etowah, N.C., beginning with Saturday's opening round.
