New York --- The
Tusculum College Women's golf team is receiving votes in this
year's inaugural Golf World/ National Golf Coaches Association
Division II Coaches? Poll. The Pioneers, who have received 12
points, finished in the top five in all four tournaments they have
competed in this fall, including a first place finish at the
Women's Independent Collegiate Tournament in Etowah, N.C.
The team has posted eight individual top-10 finishes this year.
Freshman Jillian Corum has two
top-10 finishes including medalist honors at the Women's
Independent Collegiate. Sophomore Katie
Doane has posted a team high three top-10 finishes
so far this season, including a second place showing at the
Anderson Invitational. Two-time All-SAC First Team selection
Mary Ann
Vizcarrondo finished tied for third at the Women's
Independent Collegiate. Newcomer Haley
Rye has also accounted for a top-10 finish tying
for fifth at the Women's Independent Collegiate.
South Atlantic Conference members Catawba (10th), Newberry (13th),
and Lincoln Memorial, who received votes, were also listed in this
year's first poll.
Defending national champion Nova Southeastern is at the top of the
poll, followed by Grand Valley State, Rollins, Florida Southern and
Indianapolis to complete the top five. Ashland is sixth, followed
by Drury, Barry, California (Pa.), Catawba, and Tarleton State to
round out the top 10.
Southern Indiana comes in at 12th, followed by Newberry, Lynn,
Nebraska-Omaha, West Florida, St. Edwards, Ferris State,
Concordia-St. Paul, Pfeiffer, Grand Canyon, UNC Pembroke, St.
Martins, Augustana, and Upper Iowa.
The Pioneers are at the Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate
this week in South Carolina.
