GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College will host the 12th
annual Agnes McAmis Memorial Women's Golf Invitational, this Monday
and Tuesday at Link Hills Country Club.
This year's tournament field consists of teams and players
representing 20 institutions from seven different stats including
Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina
and West Virginia. Eighth of the nine schools that will be
competing in the upcoming South Atlantic Conference Championship
will be in Greeneville this week. Joining Tusculum are fellow SAC
members Brevard College, Carson-Newman College, Catawba College,
Lenoir-Rhyne University, Lincoln Memorial University, Mars Hill
College and Wingate University.
The field also includes NCAA Division II squads Anderson
University, Belmont Abbey College, Concord University, Erskine
College, Limestone College, University of Montevallo, UNC Pembroke,
Queens University of Charlotte, Tiffin University and the
University of West Georgia. NCAA Division I Presbyterian College
returns to Greeneville, along with Spartanburg Methodist College to
round out the tournament competitors.
There are four previous champions of the McAmis Memorial in this
year's field. Tusculum has won the title three times with its last
title coming in 2000. Lincoln Memorial captured the 2001 event,
while Lenoir-Rhyne followed the next season by winning the 2002
title. Belmont Abbey returns to defend its 2008 championship as the
Crusaders established a tournament record with 299-307=606.
The opening round starts Monday morning on the 5,832-yard, Par 72
layout. Admission to the two-day, 36-hole tournament is free and
open to the public.
