HICKORY, N.C. --- The Tusculum Women's golf
team has two players in the top five, shooting a 36-hole score of
333-340=673 and is in second place after day one action of the 2008
Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship.
Sophomore Mary Ann Vizcarrondo posted consecutive
rounds of 80 to post 160 and is in fourth place, while freshman
Emily Palenkas shot 83-78=161 and is fifth.
Wingate shot 325-321=646 and leads Tusculum by 27 shots. The
Pioneers have a 20-stroke advantage over third place Newberry
(693). Catawba is fourth with 706, followed by tournament host
Lenoir-Rhyne (708), Lincoln Memorial (732) and Mars Hill (757).
Vizcarrondo is seven shots out of the lead, which is held by
Newberry's Franziska Blum, who fired 75-78=153. Blum leads
Wingate's Ashley Denton by a single stroke
(76-78=154). Kelsey Babos of Catawba is third with
158, followed by Vizcarrondo and Palenkas.
Tusculum senior Mandy Hartsock is tied for 14th
with 178, while junior Susanne Sisco posted a 183
and is tied for 19th place. Amber Ladner carded an
84 in the opening round, but withdrew in the second. TC freshman
Adriana Vizcarrondo shot 191 as an individual
competitor and is in 29th place.
The final 18 holes will be held on Tuesday on the par 72,
5,856-yard layout.
